My First Video on YouTube
WOW.
:o
So this really works! :o
Sorry sorry ... I'm a bit "suah-koo" a.k.a mountain tortoise here ...
This video was taken in May 2005 ... hhmmm .. how come it was May 2005? Strange ... I thought it should be long long before that. HAHA. But anyway, that's all I remember.
I was in some industrial area having lunch and I met this 3-legged dog. I called him "Jolly Good Fella".
He knew his boundary so well that he kept walking around below the pavement beggingfor food. Never once he stepped up and walk on the pavement where people are eating. He's patiently walking back and fro waiting for some kind souls (like me) to give him food. So I did ... That's me who threw some food for him. He's sucha sweetie that I made him a special friend in my heart from the moment I saw him.
Hope he's doing well right now. With such an attitude, I believe he'll survive anything despite the fact that he only has 3 legs. :-)
And I shall say it cheesily ... he had me at "hello". WAKAKA. :-)

Can You Be Like Them?
Some of you may have known that I'm a big fan of Oprah Winfrey. And this post is again related to one of her show - "Building a Dream: The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy". But before you turn your back around and be biased after hearing her name for whatever preconceived ideas you may have about her such as, she can do things because she's rich, she appeals only to auntie auntie's group, etc. I am begging you to just continue reading and discover that it's not really about how much she has and what she's doing with the money ... it's about 152 girls that may just change the way you look at life and most importantly, the way you look at yourself.
Brief Introduction
In 2001, Oprah told Nelson Mandela (former South Africa president), that she'd like to build a school for girl leaders. She'll commit US$10 million. And on the 6th of December 2002, she started to build her promise and that project has consumed $40 million instead on 52 acres of land. The rest is history. Out of 3000 applicants, only 152 were chosen. Their lives will never ever be the same again.
For the CNN coverage on this you can check out this link on Youtube..
Enough about her and her project. She's great. And believe most people know that.
What I'd like to touch on are a few of the girls whom have "spoken" to me and touched my heart the moment I laid my eyes on them.
Who Are The Chosen 152?
They are few of the brightest girls from South Africa who not only posses leadership potential but also great academic result. Most of them stays at very terrible neighbourhood. (That's one of the criteria to receive the scholarship to the Leadership Academy. The girls must be under privileged.)
So it'll not be surprising if you hear the following comments from them about their background:
- There are 30 families in this neighbourhood and we only have 1 toilet
- When I walk back from school everyday I pray to God that I will not be raped and abused in this dangerous neighbourhood
- There's no in-house plumbing, so we have to carry big pail of water on our head every day (Oprah tried half of the pail and couldn't do it. She couldn't even fake it. She felt like she's going to break her neck!)
- My parents are dead because of HIV/AIDS
- I'm sharing a room with mom, dad, etc and I've to sleep on the hard cold floor
After understanding a bit of their background, and how they normally live their life, I'd like to invite you to what they say when they are being interviewed:
- Lesego: The book I'm reading right now is Charles Dickens' The Great Expectations. I love that book it's really fantastic. It's got the edge to it. I love mathematics. Not knowing the answer just turns me on.
- Thando: I want to be an actress. I see myself living the life that I've always dream. I want to work hard and be the best that I can be
- Zodwa: I wanna be a leader. I believe in girl power. I believe that girls can do whatever boys can do. I believe in myself.
- Sade (12 yrs old): I want to find the cure for AIDS because most of the people in my community are affected by HIV.
- Megan & Sade (sisters, whose mom was shot by their dad and then dad shot himself in front of them when they are 6 & 5 yrs old respectively). This is what they've got to say - Megan: if we get picked in, we will work hard and succeed in life. Sade: Don't say if we get picked in, I know I'm in and both of us are in. I'm not angry with father because I know God has a reason. Just remember the good times not the bad.
The point is this ... how can you not be amazed by their attitude towards life and especially towards themselves. What they have gone through are not even on par with what we are going through. It's tougher and more humanly unimaginable. But yet they still have high hopes. Big dreams. Unlimited gratitude and humility. Confidence and sincerity.
My wish for all of you who are reading this is to stand in front of the mirror and tell yourself that you are great and that all dreams are still possible. And nothing in this world is tough unless you label it as tough.
Videos
If you'd like to see personally the interviews of some of the chosen girls, you can go to this link. You'll meet all the girls I mentioned above plus additional - Mahlatse - the only girl that wears specs (I can relate to that when I was 3 years old) due to no electricity in the house and she loves to read with only one candle lit. (MAN!!)
If you are counting the 10 key words I've given you in the email and wondering where's keywords #9: Mariah Carey, Chris Rock & Mary J. Blige. You'll be able to see them with your own eyes on this video below.
Enjoy! And always live your greatest life every second. No compromise! Like the girls.

Volver
Super Short Synopsis
I shall write the synopsis by introducing who are involved in the show:
Raimunda (Penelope Cruz):
A mother of Paula, daughter of Irene and wife of Paco who lives in Madrid. Her life is not as simple as it seems.
Sole:
Raimunda's sister who lives alone and works as a hairstylist. She's the clown of this show ... Love her lots.
Aunt Paula:
Another hilarious character who's old and frail and slightly "delusional".
Agustina:
Aunt Paula's neighbor in the small village they lived in.
The story revolves around these few characters though Aunt Paula had less screen time than the rest.
D.D.'s A-HA Moments
The title - "Volver" means to return. I was thinking ... to return what? A piece of clothes? Haha. Wrong. It has much more profound meaning than that and it was sure described well by Raimunda when she was singing the song "Volver" in the show. (You just can't miss that!).
It is trying to portray, whatever you have done in the past will find its way to return back to you. Hence the title, Volver.
Really, interesting concept.
BTW, Penelope was very very gorgeous. Not to mention how many times she needed to show her cleavage -.- .... But not as comparable as The Curse of Golden Flower though haha.

Suddenly I See
I first discovered it from the show "So You Think You Can Dance" when one of the contestant was being voted off. :-( ... I was not even watching the show. But when I heard that song, I turned my back around and immediately fell in love with it.
Next, I heard it when I was watching Ghost Whisperer!! It was like ... okay ... so what's the universe is telling me this time? HHhhmm.... What am I seeing? Well, I am not really sure yet. I only know I love the song a lot and it speaks to me right through. And it even played when I was watching Season 3 of my most favourite show at the moment - Grey's Anatomy. And someone's Myspace randomly. (She's my friend now because of that song, believe me) Weks ... Knocking 4 times so far.
Then finally, the 5th. ... Just 2 hours ago I watched the first episode of Ugly Betty. Guess what song did I heard at the end of the show? That's right ... "Suddenly I See".
I just sat down and ponder and stunned for a while. What's the message, Universe? What? What do I see?
And then I just got it as the song was played while Betty was walking away, smiling. Happy with her life. I just got it right there and then that what I need to see is that I'm whole at every moment of my life. I am contented. I'm grateful. I'm blessed. I'm who I am and I'm proud of it and most importantly, Life agrees with me. The Universe agrees with me and sending me this message that... Suddenly, I See ... This is what I wanna be.
I'm posting the video and the lyrics of this song here so that you too can see how awesome you already are and you'll be ... Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do.
Her face is a map of the world
Is a map of the world
You can see she's a beautiful girl
She's a beautiful girl
And everything around her is a silver pool of light
The people who surround her feel the benefit of it
It makes you calm
She holds you captivated in her palm
Suddenly I see (Suddenly I see)
This is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see (Suddenly I see)
Why the hell it means so much to me
I feel like walking the world
Like walking the world
You can hear she's a beautiful girl
She's a beautiful girl
She fills up every corner like she's born in black and white
Makes you feel warmer when you're trying to remember
What you heard
She likes to leave you hanging on her word
Suddenly I see (Suddenly I see)
This is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see (Suddenly I see)
Why the hell it means so much to me
And she's taller than most
And she's looking at me
I can see her eyes looking from a page in a magazine
Oh she makes me feel like I could be a tower
A big strong tower
She got the power to be
The power to give
The power to see
Suddenly I see (Suddenly I see)
This is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see (Suddenly I see)
Why the hell it means so much to me

The Pursuit of Happyness
- No money
- No education
- No house
- No wife (Wife chose to leave)
- A son a.k.a "a will to survive"
- A life a.k.a "a vehicle to survive"
- A golden attitude a.k.a "the ultimate weapon towards any hardships in life"
Super Short Synopsis
This is inspired by a true story of Chris Gardner, acted well by Will Smith and introducing his own son, Jaden Smith. 99.9% of the story is about his struggle and what he's doing about it.
What he'll do to get money (nothing illegal and harmful, BTW). And where he'll stay when there's no money to paid for an accommodation. To name a few .... public toilet, public train, public buses, etc. It's truly jaw dropping to see such scene and be grateful over the roof we have over our head.
D.D.'s A-HA Moments
He came to a job interview totally under dressed. With body full of paints. (He was painting his house the day before and caught in jail because he couldn't pay for his fine). So, with whatever he had on his body, he braced himself up to the interview.
One of the panel of interviewer asked him,"If I hire someone who doesn't have his shirt on, what will you say?"
Chris said,"I believe he must have had a great pants, Sir."
He's hired.
What's there to learn there?
Think out of the box. Focus on the bright side. And just be yourself. Don't try to be smart alec because most of the time your guts has the right answer all along.
Videos
Well, I have more than just trailer to share this time. I have the video interview with the real Chris Gardner. So, enjoy. :-)

There's a promise that Chris Gardner has made to himself that he has decided to put it at the cover of his book (as seen above) and it says,"I hold one thing dearer than all else, my commitment to my son." Why did he make such commitment? Because he had an abusive father and grew up in a way that he didn't really know who his father is.

Just Follow Law
I've not had a good laugh in the most "down-to-earth" way for quite sometime and Just Follow Law did it!
Super Short Synopsis
"Civil servant mentality" is what this movie is trying to portray. People who are just so afraid to break the rules that they follow everything law by law. Word by word. In the most hillarious way possible, this movie has really showed us that our fear and laziness in thinking out of the box will jeopardize ourselves in the long run. If you could understand "Hok Kien" that will be a plus point in enjoying the show. But even the subtitle is hillarious :-) (Yep ... I was multi-tasking. Listening and reading at the same time. Can't help it though I understand the language completely).
D.D.'s A-HA Moments
Whatever the main characters experienced towards the path of getting approval from government bodies, I too have been there and done that. You'll be so amazed that one can go from one to the next one and then go back to the same point.
My take from this show is not about breaking the rules or not. But about focusing on the solutions and not the problems. Rules are guidelines but do they solve problems at time in need? If no, what can we do?
There's this part in the show when the security guard did not allow firemen to park their truck on the "VIP" spot just because his supervisor has asked him to guard that spot with his life and not to let anyone except the "VIP" to occupy the spot. He followed the rule word-by-word and even wheel clamped the fire engine truck!
MAN!
Oh ya ... another thing. Age shouldn't be a barrier to learning and designing your life. There's an senior citizen in the show that has even created a blog after attending her computer course. You can check it out at www.laozhabor.blogspot.com. Though I don't really think it's her that writes it but the idea still kick-ass.

Born to be Victimized?!
What is victimization?
Easy ... when you think the whole world but yourself is owing you something somehow. That this world is unfair. Your boss owe you money. Your colleague owe you some respect. Your parents owe you explanation. Your parents owe you attention. Whatever it is ... you think the whole universe is revolving around you and you don't get enough of everything from the universe.
Sound familiar?
We've all been there done that.
But isn't it strange that "The Creator" has sort of given us a blank canvas to paint our own lives and yet we choose to be a victim? Aren't you scratching your head and why there are such stupid idiots still doing such things?
Because, when they are using a binocular-mentality in looking at their lives, they see nothing good. There are scarcity everywhere. Problems every time. Bad people somehow manage to step on their tails. Hence ... they lose perspective on what life is actually.
If you can just step back ... remove that binocular ... just see life as it is. See life with your own naked eyes. See it from all four corners of the world ... notice who are much worse than you ... notice who are much better than you and choose where do you want to go? Do you still want to be a victim? If yes, slap yourself on the face and say ARE YOU NUTS?
There are 2 polarities in this world, no doubt about it. The Rich and the Poor. The Good and Bad. The Beng and Me. :p .... You have choices to be made. Will you go right or left? Or you can even stay put in the center. You are not a victim, but you choose to be. Can you see it now? No?
Let me try again ....
The victimized one:
Why is it every time I do something, it always fails?
The awakened one:
What is it that I need to do to succeed?
The victimized one focuses on that 90% of the problem where as the awakened one focus on that 10% possibility of having a solution. It's just same eyes but with different perspectives, same brain but with different mindset and most importantly same situation but with different attitude.
If a man like Christopher Gardner, whose life was portrayed by Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness, was homeless, penniless and jobless. Managed to sleep in the toilet and buses ... and yet he was still able to see only solutions rather than the problems. Why can't you? Are you homeless or penniless? The chance is if you are able to read this blog you are none of those. Then why are you portraying your life as if it's much more miserable than those homeless people? Or do you need to be homeless and penniless to be able to understand how simple and happy life can be?
Are you a victim?
Or are you merely the creator of the victim role you've been playing?
The Fountain
Super Short Synopsis
Tommy (Hugh Jackman) and Izzy (Rachel Weisz) were playing parts in 3 different world and era. It's a story about love, death, life, spirituality and .... honestly I was confused after the movie -.- So many repetitions of the same scene (lots of time) ...... Please forgive me if I really don't have much to say about this show until ....
D.D.'s A-HA Moments
My "moments" were not gathered while and after I watched the show ... but I finally grasped the meaning of it after I've read some beautiful posts in the IMDB forum.
It made you think about how human views death as such a scary act ... and that death is the end of life but to the Mayan, "Death is the Road to Awe". Very profound indeed.
Although each lifetimes the main character is trying so hard to escape and prevent the death of his loved one but each time he failed ... and the only time where he finally understood everything is he let go of the concept of death. He accepted his own death and his loved ones ... and realized through deaths ... bigger creations are in the making and that it'll awe you when you realized death is a beautiful thing.
